  • Bell
    Maryland
    Keith L. Brown
    keith_l_brown@earthlink.net
I am looking for any information about the Bell family in and around Maryland in the 1700s and 1800s. In particular, I am looking for information on my great-grandmother Amanda F. Bell (the name is spelled Belle on my grandfather Verlon Brown's death certificate). The 1900 census list her as being born December 1859. The dates on her grave stone are 01 Mar 1855 - 27 Aug 1916. It is believed that one of her parents were white. Possibly her father, whose name is believed to be Noah Bell(e) a slave trader. Family remembers do recall that Amanda's sister came to visit her during her last days in Maryland and that she was white. The sister came by carriage from over the river-Dorchester County. I do not know what the sister's name was. I believe Malinda F. Bell. Interestingly enough in the 1870 census data, dated 14 Jul 1870,
Amanda F. Bell is listed twice. Once as being 11 years of age and once as being 12 years of age.
    Case #1- The Tice Family
Tice, Daniel 59 White Farmer $1500 real estate $1264 other property
    Tice, Eleanora 50 White (wife?)
Tice, William 21 White Boatsman (son?)
Bell, Amanda 11 White At home **Note: If Amanda was born in Dec 1859 then she would have actually been 10 years of age at the time of this census. If she was indeed 11 years of age then she would have been born in 1858. The family was living in District 15, Washington, MD
Case #2 - The Slottlemeyer Family
Slottlemeyer, Devall 64 White Farmer $4000 real estate $1000 other property
Slottlemeyer, Lavimia 66 White Keeping House (wife?)
Bell, Amanda 12 Black Domestic Servant **Note: If Amanda were indeed 12 years of age then she would have been born in 1857. Thus, we get closer to the 1855 birth year, but what about the month? March or December? The family was living in Hancock, Washington, MD.
That is all the information that I have at the moment. If anyone is currently tracing a Bell/Belle family line and have heard of or found any information about Amanda F. Bell (Belle) I would be thankful if you would pass it along. Thank you in advance.

  • FARRIS
    Kentucky..Indiana...Illinois...Tennessee....Virgina....Ohio
    Linda Farris Antal
    cantal@cinci.rr.com
Could you "please" help me? I am trying to locate when & where my great-grandparents & great-great grand-parents married. Their names are:

    (1) Thomas Jefferson FARRIS b. January 19, 1845 (Census says Dec 1845) in Taylor County, KY &
Lucinda UNDERWOOD born August 29,1845 in _______? Kentucky
(The 1900 census states they were married 28 years so that would be approximately 1872 depending on the actual date)

    (2) Francis Marion FARRIS b. April 25, 1873/1874 Franklin, Indiana (his tombstone says 1873; however his death record says 1874)
Nettie Ree HARDMAN b. November 9, 1877, Mt. Washington, KY
( Since Nettie Ree was born in 1877......I assume they got married when she was around 18 or so....according to the birth of their first child)

** I have no clue which county or even state they were married in. They have resided in KY, IN, TN, IL. to my knowledge. I read somewhere that KY charged for a marriage bond....and the neighboring states didn't....so that would explain why some Kentuckians would go over the border to marry in another state.....if this is actually the case.

Looking for any information that might connect my FILLIUS family with any other FILLIUS or FILIUS family line. My grandfather was Harry Harrison FILLIUS, b1890 in Phila, PA. His parents were Joseph Fillius and Mary. I believe this Joseph may have been a Civil War soldier with 114th PA Volunteers, or perhaps it was his father Joseph. I also believe that this Joseph somehow connects with the FILLIUS line which is prominent in Washington DC, descending from Jacob Fillius. Anyone who can possibly make a connection please contact me. Joseph and Mary in Phila also had other children. The ones I know are Theodoras, Joseph, Lindley, Margaret, Katherine, and Mary. There were probably others. ANY information is appreciated. Thank you.
