    I am trying to find out the name of my gggrandfather James Carter who married Matilda Plaster in Cass County, Illinois in 1842. He came from Virginia and traveled west. There was some rumor that he had changed his name from McCarter to CArter, or something like that, and also that his name was "Bert", "bart" or some nickname like that. James had a son Gibson Gooseberry Carter that married Sara Burlington. His son, Samuel Carter, married Ethel Esther Gold. Last known SaM Carter lived in Elk Creek, Nebraska, and Gibson Gooseberry Carter lived in Newton County, Missouri. Any help in locating James CArter's father would be appreciated.

Ia, their first born is buried in Page Co. Other children are : Alvin,James,Carrie, William VanBuren,Frank,Walter,Sylia,Ira, and Sam. The family lived in Page and Atchison Co. until about 1888-89 when they moved to Ne. First 4 children born in Mo. the rest were born in Ne.

    Census records show Jacob FLURY in Michigan in both the 1870 and 1880 census's. He listed being born in PRUSSIA in both of these. In later census's he listed SWIZTERLAND as his birth place. Records show that he might have emmigrated to the U.S. around 1850. The 1870 census listed him as being 30 years old.
